Dr. Marlen Sulamanidze for AMARTA

In the heart of Imereti region, Georgia, a remarkable story began with Dr. Marlen Sulamanidze, a visionary whose journey from humble beginnings to international recognition is nothing short of extraordinary, marked by innovation, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

As Dr. Marlen Sulamanidze delved deeper into the art and science of aesthetic medicine, his curiosity led him to explore the very essence of beauty – what it means and how it endures. He began to see the human face not just as a canvas for his innovations, but as a reflection of history, culture, and individual identity. This profound understanding fueled his desire to create a solution that wasn’t merely about appearances but about enhancing the inner vitality that each person carries. His work became a bridge between ancient wisdom and modern technology, connecting timeless beauty with contemporary needs.

Dr. Sulamanidze’s adventure into the world of aesthetic medicine started with a spark of curiosity. While reading an article about the Golden Threads found in ancient Egyptian mummies, he was fascinated by the idea that these ancient civilizations had used threads to preserve beauty and youth. This ancient inspiration ignited a passion within him to create something similar for the modern world.

Driven by this inspiration, Dr. Sulamanidze embarked on a quest to develop a new kind of facial rejuvenation thread. His approach was hands-on and personal – he tested the early versions of his innovative barbed threads on himself, then on his wife and close friends. His goal was simple: to perfect the technology and ensure it worked effectively and safely.

From these humble experiments, Aptos emerged – a small company rooted in the traditions of Georgian medicine. What began as a modest venture in a local region has grown into a leading name in the global aesthetic industry. Today, Aptos is renowned in over 100 countries for its groundbreaking threads and high-quality results.

Dr. Sulamanidze’s journey is a testament to how a single idea, nurtured with dedication and care, can evolve into something truly transformative. His story shows how passion and innovation can turn a small, local effort into a global success, impacting countless lives with a touch of beauty and rejuvenation.

Why did you want to rejuvenate people?

My drive to rejuvenate people stems from a deep desire to enhance not just appearance but overall quality of life. I believe that feeling good about one’s appearance can have a profound impact on self-esteem and mental well-being. Rejuvenation goes beyond cosmetic improvements; it’s about helping people feel more confident and comfortable in their own skin. By offering effective, minimally invasive solutions, I aimed to empower individuals to embrace aging with grace and their uniqueness.

When and why did you first get involved with facelifting threads?

My involvement with facelifting threads began in the late 1990s. At that time, traditional facelift procedures were quite invasive, often requiring significant downtime and recovery. I was motivated by the challenge of creating a less invasive alternative that could provide similar results with minimal recovery time. This desire to improve the patient experience led me to explore and eventually develop a new technique involving facelifting threads.

What influenced you to this invention?

The inspiration for this invention came from multiple sources. Initially, I was influenced by the limitations of existing facelift procedures, which were often associated with risks and lengthy recovery periods. Additionally, I was deeply intrigued by historical references to threads used in ancient practices, such as the Golden Threads found in Egyptian mummies. Combining these historical insights with modern scientific advancements provided a unique opportunity to innovate and improve the field of aesthetic medicine.

Ideal beauty is constantly changing; do you have your golden rules of defining beauty?

Indeed, beauty standards evolve over time, influenced by cultural shifts and individual preferences. However, I adhere to some fundamental principles that remain consistent. These include symmetry, balance, and natural harmony. My approach is to enhance these elements while respecting each individual’s unique features. By focusing on these timeless principles, I strive to create results that are both aesthetically pleasing and naturally aligned with each patient’s appearance.

They say that good plastic surgeons are born artists. Do you feel any connection to art? Do you draw?

I definitely feel a connection to art, though I wouldn’t describe myself as a traditional artist. My appreciation for art informs my work in aesthetic medicine. Understanding concepts like form, proportion, and harmony is crucial in creating natural-looking results. While I don’t draw professionally, my artistic sensibilities are reflected in how I approach the design and execution of aesthetic procedures.

Which age group is the most frequent in your practice?

The majority of my patients are between the ages of 35 and 60. This age group is often when individuals start to notice signs of aging and seek non-invasive treatments to address them. It’s also a time when many people are still active and vibrant, making them particularly interested in maintaining their youthful appearance.

How important is the psychological approach of the patient towards the surgeon and the procedure? Can it have any impact on the successful accomplishment of the procedure?

The psychological aspect of a patient’s approach is extremely important. A positive, well-informed mindset can greatly influence the outcome of the procedure. When patients have realistic expectations and a trusting relationship with their doctor, it can lead to better results and a more satisfying experience. Open communication and setting clear expectations are key to achieving the best possible outcomes.

How do you respond to criticism?

I view criticism as an opportunity for growth and improvement. Constructive feedback is invaluable in refining techniques and enhancing patient care. I approach criticism with an open mind, using it to make informed adjustments and continue advancing the field. Embracing feedback helps me stay at the forefront of innovation and maintain high standards in my practice.

What are the major Aptos thread myths out there, and what is the truth?

One prevalent myth is that Aptos threads provide permanent results. In reality, the threads dissolve over time, and their effects are not permanent, though they can last for several years. Another misconception is that the procedure is extremely painful, but most patients experience only minimal discomfort. It’s crucial to differentiate between myths and evidence-based facts to make informed decisions about the procedure.

Who is the right candidate for Aptos threads and who isn’t?

Aptos threads are ideally suited for individuals seeking a non-invasive option to address moderate signs of aging. They are best for those with moderate skin laxity and a desire for subtle, natural-looking improvements. However, individuals with severe skin laxity or certain health conditions may not be ideal candidates. A comprehensive consultation is necessary to determine whether Aptos threads are the right choice for each person.

What is the main success secret of Aptos threads being so effective?

The effectiveness of Aptos threads lies in their unique design and the materials used. The barbed threads grip the tissue securely, allowing for effective lifting and contouring. Additionally, the biocompatibility of the threads ensures minimal reaction and seamless integration into the tissue, which contributes to their success in achieving natural and long-lasting results.

Which wrinkles cannot be completely smoothed out by Aptos thread lift? What areas can be treated with Aptos threads?

Aptos threads are most effective for treating moderate wrinkles and sagging in areas such as the cheeks, jawline, and neck. They may not completely smooth out deep, static wrinkles or areas with severe skin laxity. Combining thread lifts with other treatments can provide more comprehensive results. It’s important to have realistic expectations and understand the specific benefits of the procedure.

How long does the procedure take?

Dr. Sulamanidze: The procedure generally takes about 30 to 40 minutes, depending on the areas being treated and the specific techniques used. It’s a relatively quick process, which contributes to its appeal for individuals seeking minimal downtime.

When should the patient expect to see results?

Patients typically start to see results within a few days to a week following the procedure. The full effects become more apparent over the following months as the skin adjusts and the threads stimulate collagen production, leading to a more youthful appearance.

In how many places is Aptos practiced now? What are the nearest or further plans of the company?

Aptos threads are now practiced in over 100 countries worldwide. Our plans for the future include expanding our reach even further, enhancing our technology, and providing advanced training for practitioners to ensure the highest standards of care. We aim to continue leading the field of aesthetic medicine with innovative solutions and exceptional quality.

In a special photo project shot by Amarta magazine, the Aptos thread defeats the Earth’s gravity, allegorically fighting and winning over the process of aging. Where do you personally get this energy from?

The allegory of defeating gravity symbolizes our ongoing battle against the effects of aging. Personally, I draw my energy from a deep passion for my work and a commitment to improving people’s lives. The drive to innovate and the satisfaction of seeing patients benefit from our advancements keep me motivated and inspired. This sense of purpose fuels my continued efforts and dedication to the field.
